Don's Class Application (DCLAP) library is a C++ class library for
building applications on the common windowing operating systems
(Macintosh, MS-Windows, XWindow-Motif-Unix, XWindow-Motif-VMS, ?).
This is built on the cross-platform toolkit from National Center for
Biotechnology Information (NCBI) of the National Library of Medicine (
NLM), called NCBI toolkit, and especially the Vibrant window system
subset, plus the coretools subset. This toolkit is written in ANSI C,
and compiles on a variety of systems. The source for NCBI tools is
available for anonymous ftp from ncbi.nlm.nih.gov as

This has much more than the subset with DCLAP, including detailed
documentation. Most of the additional source is directed toward
manipulation biosequence data.
If you have problems compiling DCLAP, the full ncbi toolkit may
provide needed information. However, some of the coretools and vibrant
source files from the ncbi distribution have been modified a bit
to work with DCLAP.
DCLAP is still very preliminary. There is yet no detailed documentation
for it. It is based loosely on the MacApp and TCL application class
libraries available on Macintosh, but is structured to use the available
Vibrant toolkit methods.
The only platforms I've tested it with are Macintosh-Think C 6-Symantec C++,
and Sun-GCC/G++-Motif. To compile with ThinkC/C++, see the make/MyApp.proj.hqx
for the Think project file. To compile with gcc/g++, see the make/makedclap.gcc
file. See README.NCBI for general build instructions. For gcc/g++ of DCLAP, also copy
headers from DClap/ and DApp/ to include/, and copy .cp files from those folders
to the build/ folder. I had to change the .cp suffix to .cc to get g++ to
compile them... maybe there is a suffix switch I don't know about. Ignore warnings
about multiple byte character constants from g++ -- I use the Mac convention
of initializing long ID values with somewhat humanly readable values like
long appID = 'Appl'; long viewID = 'View'; //etc
The "icons" file will be used by Iconbuttons demo if in same folder as the
application. Still needs work at this writing to distinguish mac-bitmap bit-order
from X window bitmap bit-order (Vibrant displays the differences properly,
but my DIconLib.cp doesn't read them from disk properly yet).
